Numerical analysis of a Concentrated Solar Tower (CSP) receiver

Solar tower receivers are sometimes operated in unsteady mode due to the passage of clouds over the heliostat's field. This can lead to hotspots that can affect the receiver's efficiency and the materials' resistance. Scope of this work is to numerically analyze a billboard receiver operated with sodium or molten salts with a non-uniform and time-varying wall heat flux distribution. The candidate will use OpenFOAM to perform Reynolds-Averaged-Navier-Stokes (RANS) simulations. The heat flux field will be calculated with an available ray-tracing code.
